The next few years will be key for Can Yaman's career. The actor is already known in Turkey thanks to his leading roles in Dreaming Bird or Dolunay: Full Moon. These works also opened doors for him to audiences in foreign countries - Spain among them - for which he is known all over the world. However, his next project could mean a step forward to gain international fame and reputation.
Some time ago it was confirmed that Yaman had signed on to star in Sandokan, a fiction centered on the famous pirate from Emilio Salgari's books. The series is a Lux Vide production, the same studio that has made other historical dramas such as Leonardo, with Aidan Turner and Freddie Highmore -a Spanish co-production, by the way-, or The Magnificent, the third installment of The Medici. It is, therefore, one of the most important productions in Yaman's filmography and could put him on a new level for future deals.
Because of the pandemic, production was halted, but there is news. This week Can Yaman posted an image on his Instagram account where he appears starring as a pirate. It is accompanied by the text "A presto" - "See you soon" in English. He does not say it explicitly, but it seems clear that we will soon have news about it.
Yaman has prepared very hard to play Sandokan. In addition to having moved to Italy, a country that has given him fantastic professional opportunities, he has had to learn to ride a horse and has taken classes to handle the sword like a true adventurer. He also had to get his beard and long hair back in order to get into the skin of the character.
Can Yaman's future plans also include a return to Turkey. The actor returns to his native country to work on the series he is preparing for Disney+. The streaming platform is going to land in Turkey very soon and wants to do it with a very interesting offer of its own productions for Turkish and international audiences. Yaman signed with the studio to star in a series produced by Ay Yapim, the same of Yargi or Kuzgun. Not many details are known about the fiction, but there is a great desire to see him again in this kind of stories.
According to the information revealed so far, filming will take place over four months starting in April. The series will be directed by Uluç Bayraktar, the same of Karadayi, 9,75 Santimetrekare or Içerde. All of them have a strong action and drama component, so maybe Yaman will again be away from romantic comedies. That's what he's been doing for a while. In Italy he has shot Viola come il mare, a 'thriller' about the death of a 20-year-old girl.
Good signs for Yaman's career, who is not satisfied with just being the leading man par excellence on Turkish television.
