The actress, who has been making headlines with her fashion choices, attended the annual amfAR event during the festival accompanied by her longtime partner, Hakan Sabancı.

Upon their return to their home country, the couple was captured by Gazete Magazin at the airport. Hande Erçel stated that they were heavily questioned, but everything went well, while Hakan Sabancı expressed his discomfort with being constantly photographed. Sabancı remarked, "It went well, we returned for the election, but do you always have to capture us at the airport? It's becoming quite comical now. We are starting to feel uncomfortable about it."
