Prominent figures from the world of entertainment frequently promote brands they collaborate with on social media. The fees they earn for each of these advertised posts have shocked many who have heard about them.
According to Mesut Yılmaz's report in Milliyet, some of Turkey's star figures demand astronomical sums for their posts, while others reject offers for some of their posts without specifying a price. Megastars Tarkan and Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ are among those who follow this approach.
Regardless of the brand or the amount they would earn, these two individuals only feature snippets from the advertisement shoots they do as part of their brand ambassador agreements on their social media.
PROMOTION IN EXCHANGE FOR LUXURY GIFTS
The barter system, where famous figures use promotional content in exchange for products, is one of the most preferred methods among celebrities.
Some famous personalities, in return for luxury gifts sent by various global brands, use these products and share photos of them on their social media. Here are a few examples: Serenay Sarıkaya, Afra Saraçoğlu, Yağmur Tanrısevsin, Neslihan Atagül, Demet Özdemir, Burcu Biricik, and Fahriye Evcen.
DEALS WITH AUTOMOBILE BRANDS
Agreements between celebrities and luxury automobile brands also attract attention. Some brands provide celebrities with luxury cars for free use for a year. In return, these famous individuals promote the cars on social media, attend events with the automobile brands, and make appearances in newspapers and on television.
Here are some of the celebrities who collaborate with automobile brands:
- Serenay Sarıkaya / Volvo XC90
- Hande Erçel / Range Rover Defender
- Ayça Ayşin Turan / BMW 2.18
INCREASING COLLABORATIONS
In previous years, celebrities did not invoice their social media advertising collaborations but received a flat fee. However, with increased scrutiny and applied penalties, they have started to invoice these collaborations with added VAT and withholding tax. With these two additions, the earnings have nearly doubled, yet companies continue to increase their collaborations with famous figures.
It is mandatory for celebrities to include hashtags such as #işbirliği (collaboration) or #reklam (advertisement) in a visible manner in their advertising collaborations. Some individuals, however, draw attention by using the #öneri (recommendation) tag to avoid tax payments.
