- It's as if women always have to be strong, as if women always have to fight.
- The actress became emotional while recalling the terrible story of a neighbor who was abused by her husband.
İrem Helvacıoğlu has been starring in major hits in her country for years and has become a true star. However, the spotlight hasn't always illuminated her life. After finishing her studies, she entered the workforce like many other young people and began working in a store and a cafe. "After graduating from high school, I worked as a waitress in a cafe, as a cashier in a store, and also worked as a saleswoman. I worked in the cafe for 6 months. It was an experience," she shared in her latest interview.
Helvacıoğlu wanted to step out of her comfort zone and face the real world. "The place where I lived was my safe space. I wanted to leave my comfort zone, wanted to see how to talk to people, fight, get involved in life. When I left there to enter the conservatory, the cafe owner told me that was my home and I could always come back," the actress recalled.
The actress raises her voice against abuse
The most emotional moment of the interview occurred when Irem Helvacıoğlu broke down in tears talking about how women in her country are somewhat forced to be and appear strong in the face of all kinds of adversities, especially in the face of abusive men. "I no longer want women to be so strong sometimes. Why do they have to have that obligation? They apologize and say sorry, and they get away with it. These are very painful stories. It's as if women always have to be strong, as if women always have to fight and endure it somehow," the actress shared.
The actress does not believe that women should endure such situations and recounted the tragic story experienced by a woman very close to her family. "We had a neighbor in the past; she wanted a divorce because her husband drank too much alcohol. Her father told her, 'Only the dead can enter this house. Let your husband kill you if necessary. You can't go back to your father's house; you can't come back to this house divorced.' The woman worked, earned money, he lost it in gambling, came back, and beat her again, saying, 'Why don't you have more money?'" the actress narrated, completely devastated, as she recalled this tragic story.
