Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton Expected to Receive a Colossal Salary at Ferrari... But Less Than at Mercedes

The British driver, set to join Scuderia in 2025, is expected to earn a salary of 50 million euros per year, nearly 40 million more than what Ferrari offers Carlos Sainz Jr.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion (2008, 2014, 2015, then from 2017 to 2020) is set to significantly impact Scuderia's payroll. As announced by La Gazzetta dello Sport on February 2, Lewis Hamilton will receive a salary of 50 million euros per season starting from his arrival at Ferrari in 2025.

This sum is considerably higher than the 11 million earned by his future predecessor, Spanish driver Carlos Sainz Jr., and even surpasses the earnings of Charles Leclerc, the other Ferrari driver (33 million). However, the British driver will not be as well-paid as at Mercedes, his current team. The German team is reportedly offering 60 million euros per year to the 39-year-old driver, following the extension of his contract last summer. Sir Lewis's remuneration will decrease, although it is unlikely to pose a significant financial concern for him.

His transfer to Ferrari, one of the most extraordinary in Formula 1 history, already generates high expectations. One of the greatest drivers in the sport joins arguably the most legendary team in the paddock. However, Ferrari has not secured a Constructors' Championship since 2008, and none of its drivers have won the World Championship since Kimi Räikkönen in 2007.

On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton is coming off several challenging seasons at Mercedes. After eleven years with the German team and dominating the sport in the mid-2010s, he has not won a single race in the last two seasons. The most decorated driver in history (tied with Michael Schumacher) has not been the world champion since 2020.
