Can Yaman Admits Fame Still Surprises Him: I’m Living a Fairytale

Star of the series El Turco, Can Yaman causes a frenzy among fans during his visit to Rio de Janeiro to promote the Globoplay production.

Known for starring in numerous Turkish productions like Daydreamer and Mr. Wrong, both available on Globoplay, Can Yaman (35) traveled to Rio de Janeiro for the world premiere of El Turco, a series also exclusive to TV Globo’s streaming platform in Brazil.

“This is my third time visiting this amazing country. The first time was with my father on vacation, and the second was for a fan meeting. Now, I'm thrilled to share my excitement over my new project, El Turco. Every time I’ve been here has been unforgettable. I’m sure I’ll enjoy every moment of this visit,” said the star, who had previously been to São Paulo.

The heartthrob was welcomed by a crowd of fans at the airport and happily took selfies with his admirers. His schedule in Rio was packed — along with fan meetings, he attended the high-profile launch of El Turco, hosted by Globoplay at a movie theater in the city.

"I feel like I'm living a fairytale. I talk to God and thank Him because it's pretty unlikely for a Turkish actor to become this successful worldwide. Usually, it’s American artists who achieve this, not Turkish ones like me. It's strange what’s happening to me. I feel so grateful. And it's not just in Brazil. I did a commercial in Egypt, and it was a huge success — the fan support there made me so happy. Then I went to England and felt the same love. I know this isn't something that happens all the time, so I’m very thankful. Everywhere I go, I receive so much love. It’s something really special," he shared before the first episode screening.

"I've always wanted to step out of my comfort zone, so this is really important for me. What interests me most is making the world feel smaller, helping people connect with each other," he added.

Now living in Italy for the past five years, Can Yaman filmed El Turco there. The story is inspired by the legend of La Turchia, a festival that has been celebrated for over 300 years in the Italian village of Moena.

"This project was a real turning point for me. It was incredibly special to dive into a story set in Italy, especially since I live there. It’s my first time working on an international project, filmed in English, with a much bigger budget — so it felt really special. I’m very proud that they chose me and believed I was the right fit for the role. It had to be good; it had to be perfect. The character was Turkish, so we carried that responsibility on our shoulders," he emphasized, admitting that he already knew the production would be a success.

When asked by CARAS Brasil if he had ever watched any Brazilian soap operas, the actor immediately praised Brazilian productions.

"When I was a kid, I used to watch a lot of Brazilian soap operas with my grandma. We, Turks, grew up watching Brazilian novelas. It’s always been a big tradition. We actually learned how to make soap operas from the best. But Turkish men are more handsome!" he joked, laughing. He even learned a few Portuguese words, like ‘obrigado’, and said he might consider studying the language in the future.

"They tried to teach me a few things in Portuguese. I'm always enthusiastic about learning. Yesterday, during some interviews, I think I did pretty well — people seemed happy with what I said. I studied Spanish for six months with a private teacher, so I want to keep practicing that too. And why not Portuguese next, right?" he finished with a smile.

What many don’t know is that the talented actor also holds a law degree and even worked in the field for a time! However, his passion for the arts spoke louder — and luckily, he chose to follow his heart.
