Hande Erçel appeared as a guest on Anas Bukhash’s YouTube channel, where she answered several personal questions with honesty and vulnerability.
The interview began with the question, “Who are you?” Erçel responded, “I can’t really define myself. I’d rather let people describe me to you. Honestly, I don’t fully know myself either — which Hande I am. There are so many versions of me, but I prefer others to express that. I want people to describe me.”
She continued, “I don’t know who I am… There was a time when I knew exactly who I was, but then I lost many things that made me who I am. Now, I’m trying to find myself again.”
Hande Erçel’s mother, Aylin Erçel, passed away from cancer in January 2019. When asked about her favorite childhood memory, the actress recalled her mother’s voice: “We used to live in a housing complex. It was circular, and there was a park in the middle. My sister and I would always be in that park, doing whatever we wanted until evening. And when it got late, my mom would call out from the window, ‘Hande, Gamze, come home!’ I always waited for her voice to go back inside. Whenever I think of my childhood, that’s the most beautiful memory. I just know my mom was there, calling out to us.”
A Final Memory with Her Mother
Erçel also shared a tender moment from her mother’s final days in the hospital. She described playing a song by Sezen Aksu: “She turned her head and looked at me. We listened to it together in silence. I’ll always keep that memory close.”
When asked to describe her childhood in three words, she answered: “Joyful, happy, and exciting.”
The actress emphasized how important the concept of “giving value” is in her life. She revealed that she has always gone out of her way to make sure no one ever feels unimportant around her: “I never experienced that feeling as a child. I didn’t even know what it meant. I was raised with so much care and attention. But later in life, I experienced it. Life made me feel unworthy. That’s why I never want anyone around me to feel that way.”
“Beauty Is Important”
When asked whether beauty matters, Erçel replied, “Beauty is important, but no matter how hard you try or how much you try to prove yourself, people’s perception doesn’t change. You’re beautiful, but what does beauty mean to you? You can be as beautiful as you want, but if your heart isn’t kind, that beauty becomes invisible. Yes, you’re beautiful, but that doesn’t bring success. Success is about how close you are to your dreams. It’s exhausting when people only look at your appearance.”
“I Want to Have a Child”
Hande Erçel, who has been in a long-term relationship with businessman Hakan Sabancı, also expressed her desire to become a mother: “It’s a bit scary, but I do want it… I had such a strong bond with my mother, and I want to create that kind of bond with someone who is my own flesh and blood.”
