Cemre Baysel Says the Connection She Feels With a Character Comes First

Cemre Baysel, who brings to life the outspoken and compassionate Zeynep in Güller ve Günahlar, says the bond she forms with a character is extremely important when she accepts a project.

“When I’m choosing my characters, I think, ‘What can I do? What can I add?’” the actress says. “I interpret whether the character is close to me or far from me.” Baysel adds that the Zeynep character came together very easily for her: “I found parts of myself in Zeynep. That helped me play the character more naturally.”

“OUR BLUNTNESS IS SIMILAR”

Speaking about Zeynep’s straightforward nature, Baysel says it’s a trait she relates to as well: “Zeynep is very blunt. I’m like that too. Sometimes she can speak at the wrong time or place—I’m not that much, but our bluntness is similar.”

Baysel said, “After the first episode, we realized we had put together a really good story.”

Noting that the mismatch between Serhat and Zeynep in the series is a deliberate choice, Baysel added, “There’s actually a mismatch, but the audience loved it,” and said this conflict adds strength to the story.
