Can Yaman and Selin Görgüzel Referred to Forensic Medicine After Detention in Drug Case

Turkish media reports on Saturday revealed an expansion in the scope of investigations being carried out by the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office into drug-related cases. The latest legal actions included the detention of actor Can Yaman and actress Selin Görgüzel, along with a group of other individuals, following raids targeting entertainment venues across the city.

Security forces and gendarmerie units carried out simultaneous searches at nine nightclubs and hotels, including well-known locations such as the Bebek Hotel and the Klein Phoenix club.

According to media sources, search operations at the Bebek Hotel lasted for three hours and involved the use of trained sniffer dogs. The operation reportedly resulted in the collection of materials described as “criminal evidence,” which were then transferred for laboratory analysis.

Sources stated that the detainees, including Yaman and Görgüzel, will be transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute to undergo the required medical examinations, including blood tests, in line with standard procedures to verify allegations of prohibited substance use. This step comes as part of a broader investigation supervised by the Anti-Smuggling and Narcotics Crimes Department.

These raids are an extension of a security operation that began on January 5 and has so far resulted in the detention of several individuals, including producer Muzaffer Yıldırım and actor Doğukan Güngör. The list of charges in the case reportedly focuses on three main areas: possession of narcotics for personal use, facilitating their use by others, and suspicions related to mediation or providing locations for illegal activities.

So far, no final official statement has been issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office specifying the exact charges against each detainee. Likewise, no official comments have been made by the legal representatives of the parties involved, pending the completion of the investigation and the release of laboratory test results.
