Everything is set for the launch of Sandokan on Rai 1, the TV series inspired by Emilio Salgari’s famous saga, and Can Yaman is happy to finally hand this major project over to the public—and to his fans. The Turkish actor also shared what kind of role he hopes to play next.
Can Yaman Talks About His Family
Fresh off the success of El Turco—the series where he played Ottoman janissary Hasan Balaban—Can Yaman is ready to excite audiences again with Sandokan. This project, a big-budget production by Lux Vide, marks a decisive moment in Can’s career, and for Sandokan he moved to Rome.
The actor says he loves living in the Italian capital, even though over time he has realized his popularity has grown so much that he can no longer reveal where his home is. He has changed addresses and, this time, is keeping it completely secret.
Right now, Yaman is filming a Spanish TV series titled Il Labirinto delle Farfalle, an action-packed thriller with plenty of romance, where he plays a former secret agent. In other words, he’s used to traveling—but in an interview with Tv Sorrisi e Canzoni, he admitted he misses his hometown a lot.
“I miss Istanbul, because it’s an incredible city, with an extraordinary past and history. A cosmopolitan metropolis of 16 million people, where the West and the East live together. It’s the bridge of the world—it connects two continents.”
Can Yaman’s career began almost as a hobby while he was studying for his law degree, but it ultimately proved to be the right path for him. The actor said his parents never tried to hold him back, joking that these days they definitely aren’t “breathing down his neck,” since they’re both retired and focused on their own lives.
Can Yaman Wants to Star in an Italian Comedy
Anyone who follows Can Yaman knows he’s always been eager to explore new paths in acting. He first rose to stardom through Turkish soap operas, explaining that once you enter that world, it’s hard to step away—especially in Turkey, where fandoms form strong attachments and production companies tend to keep casting the faces audiences love and that consistently work well on television.
In Italy, Yaman challenged himself with Viola Come il Mare, a Lux Vide drama starring Francesca Chillemi, where he acted in Italian for the first time as Francesco Demir. Then came the international project El Turco, an English-language production in which he plays Ottoman janissary Hasan Balaban alongside Greta Ferro. So what does Yaman want to do next?
