Cemre Baysel had filed a complaint in February against two obsessive fans, Emirhan G. and Murat S., who were allegedly following her on set. A lawsuit has now been filed against the suspects, with prosecutors seeking prison sentences of up to six years.
The incident reportedly took place on the set of the TV series Cemre Baysel was filming in Sarıyer’s Büyükdere neighborhood. At the time, the actress was inside her trailer when the two suspects allegedly began following her around the set and watching her closely.The suspects reportedly obtained the phone number of Cemre Baysel’s mother, Fatime Baysel, and contacted her directly. During the call, they said they were on the set and asked to meet Cemre and take photos with her. The same individuals also placed an order for 18 meals to be delivered to the set. While the orders were returned, set staff identified the phone numbers used by the suspects and contacted them, leading to their identification.
An argument broke out between the suspects and the set crew. Following Cemre Baysel’s complaint, Emirhan G. and Murat S. were taken into police custody. After giving their statements, they were released under judicial supervision.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has completed its investigation and filed a lawsuit against the suspects. The indictment notes that although the suspects blamed each other, they committed the alleged crimes together.
Emirhan G. and Murat S. will stand trial at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance, facing charges of “persistent stalking” and “unlawfully obtaining and disseminating personal data,” with a potential prison sentence of up to six years.
