Can Yaman’s Demanding Routine: I Get Up, Have Breakfast, and Spend Two and a Half Hours at the Gym

“I had to be a very, very, very buff warrior,” Can Yaman explains to the undeniably lucky Tamara Falcó. The two chat in a relaxed, easygoing atmosphere to mark the premiere of El Turco. The remark comes up because Can often shows off his bare torso—not only in this latest production (and if you’re a fan, you already know that perfectly well). And of course, a torso like that takes a lot of training to sculpt every muscle to the fullest. In fact, during that conversation, the Turkish actor everyone has been talking about lately revealed the daily routine he follows to maintain a body like his.

A Body Sculpted in the Gym

Tamara Falcó offers Can Yaman a tempting spread of classic Spanish foods: potato omelette (“I like it a little runny,” Can specifies), Iberian ham (“You can’t cut it, that’s bad manners,” he says, showing off his knowledge of our country’s food culture), and marinated anchovies with olives, which the Early Bird actor turns down: “That's not my flavor,” he explains. As he tucks into both the omelette and the ham (“I’m hungry as hell,” he jokes), he talks about his daily routine: “I wake up, have eggs and avocado for breakfast… and then I go to the gym for two and a half hours,” he tells a surprised Tamara. “I totally overdo it because I love it,” he replies. In fact, he adds, he can train for as long as three hours straight.

Can Yaman’s role is highly physical: he runs, rides horses, faces off against his opponents with a scimitar in hand... That is the main reason why he not only had to prepare intensely at the gym, but also reach a weight of around 102 kilos—of pure muscle, of course. Still, physical preparation is nothing new for him. Even in the more romantic roles he has played in series such as the aforementioned Daydreamer or Inadina Ask, Can has always been in peak condition. “I love it. It’s part of my life, it’s my lifestyle,” he said in an interview with 20 minutos.

His Favorite Sports Disciplines

So what sports does Can Yaman practice? Well... it depends on the series he is about to star in, because his training changes accordingly. “For Sandokán, [I had to weigh] 85 kilos; for El Turco, 102 kilos.” As explained on the YouTube channel Noti Novelas, to prepare for his latest role he spent months training in fencing, wrestling, sword handling, archery, and horse riding.

Boxing, wrestling, and CrossFit are regular disciplines for the actor, who from time to time shares his routines on social media, causing more than a few sighs. In El Mundo, during the promotion of Daydreamer in Madrid back in 2019, it was already reported that the actor tends to use his own body weight to work out—in other words, he prefers TRX to lifting weights. He also uses other equipment such as the bosu (an unstable training surface used for strength work, with one flat, rigid side and one curved, flexible side) or the medicine ball.

Is there more? Of course there is. Pull-ups, push-ups, jump squats, and kettlebell exercises (a type of weight used to build strength, endurance, power, and flexibility) are just some of the almost countless exercises our favorite Turk loves to do. Because a body like that... demands an enormous amount of effort.
