Can Yaman: Starting a Family? Right Now, I Can’t Even Get a Dog

The actor opens up about the pressures of fame, his desire to reinvent himself and his new character in the Spanish series Il Labirinto delle Farfalle, coming soon to Canale 5.

There was a time when fame had become almost a physical presence in Can Yaman’s life—constant, overwhelming and impossible to ignore. The Turkish actor opened up about the experience while attending the Taormina Film Festival, where he discussed his upcoming professional projects as well as the price he has had to pay for success in recent years.

Today, Can Yaman appears calm, self-aware and very different from the young man who suddenly found himself at the center of an international phenomenon. Yet there were times when his popularity went far beyond ordinary fan enthusiasm.

“Five or six years ago, I felt the public’s constant presence as a form of pressure,” he told Vanity Fair. At certain points, that attention became even more intrusive. “People knew my address, and for two years I lived with crowds gathered outside my home.”

Fame and the Need to Find Balance

Over time, however, Can Yaman has learned how to handle that constant attention. Today, he says he approaches his relationship with the public in a more mature way, making himself available to fans at festivals and events without giving up his privacy.

That personal growth is also reflected in his professional choices. After spending years playing charming romantic characters, the actor now feels the need to explore new territory.

At Taormina, he discussed the Spanish series Il Labirinto delle Farfalle, which will soon air on Canale 5 and stream on Mediaset Infinity. In the series, he plays a secret agent who is far removed from the usual stereotypes.

“At first, I was essentially a full-on James Bond type, but as the script went through different drafts, they began softening the character. He became a much more human kind of Bond, someone who sacrifices himself for women. It’s a complete romantic thriller: there’s action and a more traditionally masculine side, but there’s also tenderness in his relationship with a little girl and with the women in his life. The role suits me perfectly,” he told Adnkronos.

Beyond the Sex-Symbol Label

Another topic Yaman addressed was his appearance, an aspect that has often dominated the public narrative surrounding his career. The actor, however, sees things differently.

“Everything I have done in my life, I did without taking into account the fact that I was considered handsome,” he explained.

Before entering television, he dreamed of becoming a lawyer, studied hard and learned foreign languages. Fame and the focus on his image came later.

“Of course, my looks helped me, but they would never have been enough on their own,” he added.

When asked about the possibility of starting a family, the Turkish actor was equally clear.

“I’ll do it when I’m finally able to settle down somewhere in the world. I would like to one day, but right now I travel constantly. I can’t even have a dog, let alone start a family,” he told Corriere della Sera.

His words reveal a man determined not to remain trapped by the sex-symbol label. Today, Can Yaman is looking ahead, searching for new roles and fresh challenges, with the awareness of someone who has learned that success can be a major achievement—but also something that must be managed with balance.
