Kanal D’s hit series Eşref Rüya came to an abrupt end when no one was expecting it.
Viewers were stunned that a show still performing well in the ratings had suddenly been brought to a close. With the reason for its finale becoming a major topic of debate, several allegations began circulating.
One claim suggested that Eşref Rüya had ended because of jealousy on the part of Çağatay Ulusoy’s girlfriend, Aslıhan Malbora. It was also alleged that Malbora frequently visited the set and that Ulusoy experienced problems with his co-stars as a result.
Birsen Altuntaş has now revealed what she says was the real reason the series ended.
“There was so much chaos surrounding it, with claims like, ‘Çağatay said this or that,’ and ‘Aslıhan Malbora caused an argument on set and stormed off,’ and so on.
“Clearly, they weren’t on particularly good terms or especially close. They didn’t like each other. At first, they appeared to get along very well, but ultimately, they were doing a job. Çağatay is a very sweet actor and is also highly professional in the workplace.
“Most recently, people even claimed, ‘Everyone unfollowed Çağatay—Necip Memili and the other cast members...’ But Büşra Develi herself said she had never followed him in the first place. When I checked the others, the actor they claimed had unfollowed him was actually still following him. You start wondering whether they unfollowed him and then followed him again, or whether we somehow missed it, but these claims are usually made simply to stir up drama.
“Yes, Demet and Çağatay were not on particularly good terms, but one of the main reasons the series ended was a financial dispute. The channel was asked to guarantee 26 episodes rather than 13, but it refused. That led to the question, ‘Why should we return for a new season just to film 13 episodes?’ Otherwise, the ratings might have fallen by the sixth episode and the show could have ended anyway. So the thinking was, ‘At least let’s bring it to an end while it’s still a champion.’”
