Turkish Turk Can Yaman has for several days now decided to activate himself on the front lines to help his people in the aftermath of the earthquake that devastated his nation and Syria. Famous director Ferzan Ozpetek has also recently chosen to raise funds for the tragedy.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on the night of Feb. 5-6 is seeing a steadily growing death toll. There are currently reports of more than 46,000 dead and millions of people displaced. There are many people in the entertainment industry who are mobilizing to help those affected by the tragedy.

Among the associations and public figures who have taken to the front lines are two Turks who are much loved in Italy. The first is star Can Yaman, who stars in the Canale 5 drama Viola come il mare, where he stars alongside Francesca Chillemi. 

The actor has launched a campaign to raise funds through his foundation "Can Yaman for Children." When asked why he decided to take action so readily, the actor was very clear.

I thought that I could not stand still, that I had to help right away and in a concrete way, because we are strong even in the worst of times and every fellow citizen of mine who has fallen into misfortune is a brother of mine

In just a few days, nearly 80,000 euros, or 1.6 million Turkish liras, have already been raised. The funds raised will be donated to Ahbap, the nongovernmental organization that has been working to give medical supplies, shelter, and food to people affected by the earthquake.

Not only Can Yaman rallied to help the people of Turkey, but also the famous director Ferzan Ozpetek. The filmmaker decided to donate part of the proceeds of his show "Ferzaneide" to ONG. "A Turkish platform I trust," said the screenwriter. "Those who bought tickets do not even know, I will tell them myself in the show," he concluded.
